A subject of high brightness value. Unique atmospheric conditions create an unusual tension against the sharp architecture. There was a 4-stop difference between foreground/background luminance. To balance exposure values and maintain dynamic range, I used a 2-stop soft ND Grad and a near-netural 51A Tobacco grad.
Normal exposure and development of the print was possible because of the considerable amount of reflected light directed to the subject by nearby objects of high luminance value. Development techniques utilized are in process and effect similar to No. 2 Kodabromide, developed in Beers No. 7 (to intensify the few areas of intense black). In this print, the lower left-hand corner should have been dodged up one zone in visual value. Note that the values of the print are distributed chiefly in the white, light middle-gray, and black values; a smoother progression of tones might have reduced the impression of glare and harsh brilliancy. f/7.1 | 1/100 | +1.3ev | 28mm | ISO100 | TIFF16BIT | 63.21MB Graham Clark © 2008. |
